The tiny boy was trying to figure him out, and Jeff knew it. He was very much aware of everything he was doing, and tried to keep his tone gentle and his actions slow and careful so as not to startle the little boy. "No, it's totally okay," Jeff promised, giving Nick a reassuring smile. "He's even more gorgeous in person, Nicky," he added, giving Rory a smile. "You look so much like your daddy, Rory." Jeff didn't know much about teething kids directly, but he'd heard from his mom that it was a pretty miserable time for all parties involved, and his mom hadn't been a single parent for it. Jeff couldn't imagine what Nick was dealing with.
Jeff grinned as he followed Nick inside and shook his head. "I'm about to hit the off days on my rotation, so it's cool. I can sleep whenever. You sounded like you could use some company, and it's really not a problem. Besides, I've been wanting to meet this little guy, even if he's not feeling so good right now." He gave Nick a sympathetic nod. "I'm sure. I love kids... always have, but nobody ever said they were easy. I can't imagine raising a child alone, but I know Rory's lucky to have you as his dad. I'm here for all of two minutes, and I can see that."
